Middle School

St. Luke's Middle School offers a challenging curriculum in the core academic courses (English, Math, History, and Science) with an emphasis on the skills and knowledge necessary for academic success in the Upper School.  In addition to the core subjects, students participate in Physical Education daily and are offered electives in other disciplines.  Writing, research, study and organizational skills are strongly emphasized and computer skills are integrated into the curriculum.  The members of our Middle School faculty are not only experts in their academic fields, but are also aware of the unique intellectual, physical, social, and emotional needs of the early adolescent.

During the Middle School years St. Luke's emphasizes the value of service to others.  Students are given opportunities to serve others and are encouraged to obtain a specific number of community service hours each year.  Middle School students also have the opportunity to be involved in enrichment activities such as Student Council, clubs, organizations, and athletics.  Whether on the playing field, in a classroom, or off campus, St. Luke's Middle School students are encouraged and expected to model good sportsmanship and good moral character.

In additon to a strong academic program, St. Luke's Middle School students take three trips during their Middle School years.  The sixth grade visits Tremont in the Smokey Mountain National Park in Tennessee for a hands-on experience in science and cooperative learning instruction.  The seventh grade visits the Marine Lab in Key Largo as a part of their Science curriculum.  They also tour Key West and enjoy snorkeling and boating in the Keys.  The eighth grade enhances their study of US History with a trip to historic Williamsburg and Washington, D.C.  These trips are often thought of as the highlight of the St. Luke's Middle School experience.
