Financial Aid

Please note that St. Luke’s does not offer scholarships based on academic, athletic, or artistic ability.  All financial aid is strictly based on the family’s need.

St. Luke’s uses School and Student Services (SSS), a service affiliated with the National Association of Independent Schools, which helps determine each family’s level of financial aid.

Families currently receiving financial aid must submit the appropriate documentation each year to verify that they still qualify for aid.  It is strongly recommended that families apply for aid as early as possible due to a limited amount of financial aid funds.

Please contact Tiffany England (251-666-2991) or Anita Roberson (251-445-7230) for a financial aid packet.

2010-2011 FINANCIAL AID POLICY AND PROCESS

St. Luke's Episcopal School will award financial aid for Grades 5-10 based on the demonstrated parent(s) or guardian(s) financial need and availability of funds.  The Financial Aid Committee will determine awards.

St. Luke's Episcopal School does not discriminate in the administration of our financial aid policies because of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, or age.

St. Luke's Episcopal School shall safeguard the confidentiality of all financial information supplied by the parent(s) or guardian(s).

St. Luke's Episcopal School shall not use financial need as a consideration in determining a student's eligibility for admission.

The student's parent(s) or guardian(s) must use the School and Student Service for Financial Aid form and follow the Financial Aid Process, providing the School with copies of the Parent Financial Statement and Federal Income Tax Return with attached W-2's and Schedules.

Other tuition discounts will not be given in addition to financial aid.  Financial aid does not cover any additional fees, including the new student fee, registration fee or capital improvement fee.  If a student's enrollment is conditional upon financial aid, the new student fee and registration fee will be refunded to the applicant if he/she is unable to attend based on a negative committee decision.  It is the student's parent(s) or guardian(s) responsibility to inform the Director of Admission in writing before the contract deadline if the contract needs to be voided due to a financial aid decision.

NOTE:
St. Luke's Financial Aid Policy is based on the principle that both parents or guardians are responsible for the support and educational expenses of their children to the extent that they are financially able to assume responsibility.  That principle applies to all parents or guardians including those who are separated or divorced or have never been married.  In these cases, the financially responsible parent(s) or guardian(s) must each complete the Parent's Financial Statement and are required to submit all attachments as stated in the School's Financial Aid Policy and Process.  If the other parent or guardian is unwilling or unable to complete the necessary forms, the financially responsible parent or guardian must send written notice to the School along with their copies of the Parents' Financial Statement.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR THOSE WHO APPLY TO SSS ONLINE INSTEAD OF BY MAIL:
Please be sure to include a copy of your SSS online application and include it with the required paperwork to St. Luke's.

St. Luke's must receive ALL new financial aid applications and supporting documents no later than March 1st for the next school year to be considered for Financial Aid.

FAQ's

What is tuition assistance?

Tuition assistance is a grant given to qualifying families to offset the costs of a St. Luke's Episcopal School education.  The grant does not have to be repaid.

Who can apply?
Families who have students in the fifth grade through twelfth grade are eligible to apply.

How is financial need determined?
Financial need is determined by the school's best assessment of need relative to other requests and school resources. The School and Student Service (SSS) for Financial Aid sends St. Luke's a Report of Parental Contribution (RFC), which makes a general recommendation about a family's ability to pay.  The RFC report does not bind St. Luke's to any specific award, as it only serves as an additional tool for the consideration process.  The Financial Aid  Committee reviews the SSS information, applicable tax forms, and the St. Luke's application for Financial Aid, taking into consideration any extenuating circumstances where a family might be exempt from this policy, such as caring for a disabled or elderly parent or staying home with an infant or toddler.

My spouse does not work.  How will this affect the amount of tuition assistance awarded?
Since it is our belief that families bear the primary responsibility for financing the education of their children, it is our policy to expect both parents to contribute financially.  If your spouse chooses not to work, the School will calculate a full-tiime annual salary at the minimum wage level and add it to the income calculations.  There are circumstances where a family might be exempt from this policy, such as caring for a disabled or elderly parent or staying home with an infant or toddler.

If we are divorced or separated, do both parents need to apply for tuition assistance?
Yes.  Both parents must submit financial aid forms and tax information.

I never do my taxes until close to the April 15 deadline.  How will this affect my tuition assistance award?
You will need to complete your taxes early enough to meet the March 1, 2010 deadline in order to be considered for tuition assistance.

Is tuition assistance automatically renewed?
No.  It is necessary to re-apply every year, and awards may be adjusted if family financial circumstances change significantly.

Will applying for tuition assistance influence the admission decision?
No.  Decisions regarding admission and tuition assistance are arrived at independently.

How do you receive financial aid application forms?
Simply indicate your interest in applying for tuition assistance by contacting the Business Office or Admissions Office and this office will provide you with the necessary information.
